  • Corn and wheat prices were little changed in early trading in South Africa, the continent’s biggest producer of corn.

White corn for March delivery, the most actively traded contract, declined 2 rand, or 0.1 percent, to 1,357 rand ($199) a metric ton on the South African Futures Exchange at 9:39 a.m. in Johannesburg. Meal made from the grain is the country’s staple food.

Yellow corn for July delivery fell 1 rand, or 0.1 percent, to 1,485 rand a ton. The grain is used mainly as animal feed in South Africa. Wheat for March delivery lost 1 rand at 2,922 rand a ton.

The gains or losses for the most active contracts of the following crops today were as follows. All prices are in rand and the crops are sold in tons:

Today’s price Previous Close % Change
    Sunflowers 4,290 4,270 0.5
    Soybeans 3,414 3,368 1.4
    Sorghum 1,500 1,500 0.0
